Stop smoking products
Patches
Nicotine patches provide a steady amount of nicotine into the bloodstream, through the skin. They can be worn round the clock (24 hour patches) or just during the time you are awake (16 hour patches). Patches should be changed daily to avoid irritation and placed to the dry, non-hairy skin on your arm, back or body. Patches come in different strengths.

Nasal spray
The spray delivers nicotine through the lining of your nose. This is for highly dependent smokers and nicotine is absorbed through the nasal passage. Do not use more than 64 sprays in 24 hours. The spray may cause side-effects such as nose and throat irritation, coughing, and watering eyes.

Quickmist
Prime the spray pump before use by pressing the top until a fine spray appears. Maximum 64 sprays in any 24 hour period. Press the top to release one spray into your mouth, aiming for the inside of the cheeks. Do not swallow saliva immediately as this may cause heart burn, indigestion and hiccups

Inhalator
A nicotine inhalator works by releasing nicotine when you suck on it. Each cartridge contains 15mg and you can use up to 6 cartridges per day. It works best when warmer and can cause throat irritation.

Gum
When you use nicotine gum, the nicotine is absorbed through the lining of your mouth. To release the nicotine from the gum, chew it until the taste becomes strong or hot. After this you can rest the gum inside your cheek. Once the taste or heat fades you will need to chew again to release more nicotine.

Lozenges/minis/cools
Suck and then place it by the side of your mouth next to the lining of your cheek, where it will dissolve. You may feel a hot sensation against your cheek - this is nicotine being absorbed through the lining of your gums.
Do not chew

E-cigs and vaping

Quit Squad is an e-cig and vape friendly service. We will not promote particular e-cig brands or provide e-cigs as an aid to stop smoking. We will support you if you choose to use an e-cig or vape as an aid to stopping smoking, either on their own or alongside Nicotine Replacement Therapy.
Electronic cigarettes do not burn tobacco and do not produce tar or carbon monoxide. They work by heating and vapourising a solution, which normally contains nicotine, propylene glycol or vegetable glycerine. This allows you to inhale nicotine through a vapour rather than smoke it.
“Best estimates show e-cigarettes are 95% less harmful to your health than normal cigarettes, and when supported by a smoking cessation service, help most smokers to quit tobacco altogether”
Duncan Selbie, Chief Executive, PHE
